Borders for Atlanta
Lisa Borders, who served as the President of the Atlanta City Council from 2004 - 2010, was a candidate for mayor of Atlanta in 2009.
About
Following a landmark presidential election that redefined political engagement, the municipal races in Atlanta presented a new kind of challenge. As part of Relate Media Group, I joined the campaign team for businesswoman and former city council president Lisa Borders, tasked with connecting with an electorate that was only just beginning to embrace the internet and social media as a primary source of political information. The goal was to translate a candidate's vision into a modern, digitally-driven message that could captivate voters in a rapidly changing media landscape.
The Work
As a core member of the campaign team, my role was to architect the entire visual and digital identity. I designed the campaign's official website, creating a central platform for her message and policy positions. Concurrently, I managed all of her social media properties, from Facebook and Twitter to the then-relevant MySpace and LinkedIn, ensuring a consistent voice and presence across every channel. My responsibilities also extended to the design of most of the campaign's digital and physical materials, creating a cohesive brand that resonated with voters.
Conclusion
My work on the Borders for Atlanta campaign fundamentally redefined the online marketing playbook for municipal elections. We pioneered an integrated strategy that seamlessly connected a candidate with her constituents through social media during a time when this had only been done on a national level. This effort laid the groundwork for how local political campaigns would communicate for years to come, proving that a sophisticated, holistic digital approach can be the deciding factor in modern political contests.
